Role DescriptionThis is a full-time, on-site role located in Krugersdorp for an ISO 9001 Steel Fabrication Estimator (Mechanical). The Estimator will review engineering drawings and specifications to prepare accurate cost estimates for steel fabrication and mechanical components. Daily tasks include analyzing material requirements, labor hours, and fabrication processes; requesting and evaluating supplier quotations; and compiling detailed estimate reports and bills of quantities.
The role involves collaborating with design, production, and procurement teams to refine estimates, support budgeting and project planning, and ensure compliance with ISO 9001 quality standards. The Estimator will also help optimize fabrication methods, maintain cost databases, and participate in continuous improvement of estimating procedures.
- Demonstrated experience in mechanical steel fabrication estimating, including reviewing technical drawings and preparing detailed cost breakdowns.
- Strong understanding of fabrication processes such as cutting, welding, forming, assembly, and surface treatment, particularly for industrial machinery and structural steel.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 principles, documentation, and quality management practices applied in manufacturing and engineering environments.
- Proficiency with relevant software tools, such as CAD for reading drawings, estimating software or spreadsheets, and basic ERP systems for material and cost tracking.
- Solid analytical and numerical skills, with the ability to interpret engineering data, calculate material quantities, and evaluate labor and overhead costs.
- Effective communication and collaboration abilities, including working closely with engineers, project managers, and workshop teams, and presenting estimates clearly.
- Detail-oriented work style, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tenders and projects with tight deadlines.
- Relevant technical qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Fabrication, or a related field; prior experience in process machinery or industrial plant projects is an advantage.
