Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Production Lead (Hands-On) – Electrical Automation & IoT
Location: Kuilsrivier

This is a hands-on role: about 60% of your time will be on the tools , building our electrical automation and IoT equipment, from electrical panels and control systems to motors, gearboxes and mechanical assemblies. As our Production Lead , reporting directly to the founders, you will also lead the workshop team and spend the other 40% running production, procurement and the stores, so the right parts are always on the shelf when the team needs them.

This role is about ownership . What leaves our workshop is yours: its quality, its timing and how it performs on site.
There is a clear growth path: as the business grows and the team expands, the role becomes less hands-on and grows into Production & Procurement Manager .

On the Tools (about 60%)
  • Build panels, control systems, motor and gearbox assemblies and other equipment from drawings.
  • Wire, assemble and test equipment alongside the team, and set the standard on workmanship.
  • Check drawings, then QC and test every build against our standards and regulations before it leaves the workshop.
  • Log failures and site team feedback, find the root cause, and make sure the fix goes into the next build.
  • Help with installation, commissioning or remote support when the site team needs a hand.
Running Production (about 40%)
  • Run the job list: set priorities, allocate work to the team and track progress against project deadlines.
  • Check BOMs against stock ahead of each job and flag shortfalls early.
  • Procurement: get supplier quotes, place orders, track deliveries and chase anything running late.
  • Stores: receive and check deliveries, keep stock records accurate, run regular counts and set minimum levels so routine items never run out.
  • Hold the team and outside suppliers, such as fabrication, accountable for quality, timing and conduct, and elevate issues to the founders early.
  • Own health and safety in the workshop: risk assessments, PPE, safe electrical work and incident reporting.
  • Keep workshop tools and test equipment in good order, and control job costs: materials, labour, consumables and overtime.

Ideally, you are an qualified electrician, millwright or electrical engineer (or equivalent trade experience) who has been building electrical equipment and systems , knows electrical drawings inside out and is just as comfortable with mechanical assembly.

  • Proven hands‑on experience building electrical panels, control systems or automation equipment.
  • Comfortable with mechanical assembly: motors, gearboxes, drives and mounting hardware.
  • Strong ability to read electrical drawings and wiring diagrams and check them against a standard.
  • A working understanding of connected systems (controllers, sensors, communication and networking), so you understand what you are building and how it performs in the field.
  • Willing to have difficult conversations and hold people to a standard.
  • Procurement or stores experience (or the organisation to pick it up quickly), computer literacy, and a driver's licence with own transport.

Ownership comes first. You do not wait to be told. You see the bigger picture, develop the people around you, earn trust with customers and colleagues, and have the backbone to disagree, then commit and deliver.
Customer obsession: the highest standards, a bias for action and results.
Innovation: curiosity, frugality and diving deep until a problem is properly solved.
