Job Summary
The Professional Nurse/Clinical Nurse – ICU Neuro provides holistic, patient-centered nursing care for neuro ICU patients, coordinating multidisciplinary care and implementing evidence-based practice to achieve optimal outcomes.
Patient Care- Act as a clinical resource for assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation and documentation of nursing care in the ICU Neuro unit.
- Communicate with families and health professionals to advocate for optimal patient care and participate in patient interaction.
- Relate with nursing management and unit staff to eliminate patient care issues.
- Implement advanced nursing care in accordance with standards, SOPs, nursing theory, and medical direction.
- Initiate and maintain emergency treatment (RESUS) for patients in any ward or department.
- Interview patients and families to obtain background information and identify problems; evaluate behavior and assess long-term needs.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team discussions to develop health care plans and treatment regimes.
- Conduct rounds with physicians to review patient condition, develop care plans, and participate in care of all unit patients.
- Initiate individualized nursing care plans and coordinate patient services.
- Prepare shift documentation reflecting patient status, staff ratios, and problems.
- Communicate with unit manager regarding activities and problems.
- Perform related tasks as requested.
- Provide input and standards in formulating patient care policy and procedures within the hospital.
- Ensure a safe, clean and secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
- Optimize and maintain quality nursing care within assigned budget.
- Evaluate, set standards and monitor safe utilization of supplies and equipment.
- Actively participate as a member of the team to achieve goals.
- Cooperate and collaborate with other hospital departments to provide appropriate support services.
- Coordinate with the Clinical Facilitation Department to meet ongoing educational needs of nursing staff, students, and patients.
- Plan, implement, mentor, and evaluate learning experiences and opportunities for staff and students.
- Review and update emergency procedures through ongoing in-service training.
- Participate in orientation of new staff in the unit.
- Advise and inform staff on current and revised policies and procedures.
- Allocate staff to meet patient needs and specialized skills through sound clinical judgement.
- Adjust staff levels to match acuity requirements.
- Actively engage in professional development to maintain skill and knowledge levels.
- Keep updated with evolving policies and procedures.
- Cooperate to establish and maintain mutually beneficial working relationships.
- Develop collaborative relationships to accomplish work goals.
- Maintain effective communication within the unit, multidisciplinary team, and public.
- Foster good interpersonal and public relations while applying institutional philosophy, goals, and objectives.
