• The Professional Nurse/Clinical Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning and implementation of individualized, holistic and person-centered nursing care of a patient, their family or the community, whether performed directly or indirectly.
• Coordinate patient care within the concept of the multidisciplinary health team.
• Apply scientifically based nursing theories and processes, treating patients as physical, social and spiritual individuals, using appropriate educational and technical means in health care practice.
• Serve as a clinical resource to assess, plan, implement, evaluate and document nursing care in the unit, and communicate with family and health professionals to advocate for the patient.
• Facilitate communication between nursing management and the unit to address patient care problems and issues.
• Assess, plan and implement advanced nursing care in accordance with standards, SOPs, nursing theory and medical direction; initiate and maintain emergency treatment (RESUS) as indicated.
• Interview patients and families to obtain relevant information, evaluate behaviours, and identify immediate and long-term needs.
• Participate as a professional member of the multidisciplinary team in evaluating, developing and implementing health care plans and treatment regimes.
• Conduct rounds with physicians to review patient conditions, develop nursing care plans, and participate in care for all patients in the unit.
• Evaluate patient care needs and initiate individualized nursing care plans; coordinate patient services.
• Prepare day/night shift documentation reflecting patient status, patient/staff ratio and issues; communicate with the unit manager about activities and problems.
• Perform related tasks as requested.

Provide input and set standards in formulating patient care policy and procedures in the hospital.

• Ensure a safe, clean and secure environment for patients, staff and visitors.
• Aim to optimise and maintain quality, effective and safe nursing care within the assigned budget.
• Evaluate, set standards and monitor safe utilization of supplies and equipment.

• Education and training facilitation

  Coordinate with Clinical Facilitation and the multidisciplinary team to meet ongoing educational needs of nursing staff, students and patients; plan and evaluate learning experiences; provide in-service and orientation training; inform staff on current policies and procedures.
• Resource Allocation

  Allocate staff to optimise nursing care for individual patient needs; adjust staff levels for acuity requirements.
