425 qualification (i.e., diploma/degree in nursing) or equivalent that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse. - Post‑basic nursing qualification with a duration of at least 1 year accredited in Mental Health Nursing.
- Registration with SANC as Professional Nurse (Proof of current registration).
- Minimum of 9 years of appropriate experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with SANC in General Nursing.
- At least 5 years of the above must be in Mental Health Nursing after obtaining the 1‑year post‑basic qualification.
- Degree/Diploma in Nursing Management / Administration.
- Computer literacy.
- Demonstrate an in‑depth understanding of nursing legislation, legal and ethical nursing practices and their impact on service delivery.
- Ensure clinical nursing practice by the nursing team in accordance with scope of practice and nursing standards; promote quality of nursing care directed by professional standards.
- Show basic understanding of HR and financial policies and practices.
- Communicate effectively with patients, supervisors, other health professionals and subordinates, including complex report writing.
- Work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team at unit level to ensure good nursing care; supervise junior colleagues and manage own work and time.
- Display concern for patients, advocacy, person‑centred care and ensure unit adheres to Batho Pele principles.
- Build and maintain a network of professional contacts to enhance service delivery.
- Use computer skills to support service delivery.
- Compile and analyse reports to improve quality of patient care.
- Manage resources effectively and efficiently in the unit; be prepared to work shifts including nights and relieve the supervisor as needed.
- Function as part of a team and demonstrate a professional image.
