The Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) plays a crucial role in safeguarding the health and well-being of hospital employees. The primary responsibility is to assess, prevent, and manage work-related health risks, ensuring a safe and healthy working environment. The OHN also provides counseling, education, and support to employees, promoting physical and mental well-being through preventive health measures. In essence, the OHN acts as a vital link between employee health and hospital operations, ensuring a healthy workforce while minimizing occupational health risks.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience Education
  • A nursing degree/diploma with registration as an RN.
  • Postgraduate training in occupational health nursing.
  • Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as both a General Nurse and an Occupational Health Nurse is essential.
  • Training in advanced first aid, CPR, and emergency care techniques is needed. (e.g., BLS/ACLS - Basic/Advanced Life Support certification.
  • Certification to administer vaccines.
Experience
  • 2-5 years of clinical nursing experience with at least 1-3 years in occupational health.
  • COIDA/WCA (Workmen's Compensation Act/Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act).
  • 1-3 Year Practical Health compliance and guidance experience.
