Position Title
Field Guide / Safari Guide
Reporting ToHead Guide / Lodge Manager
LocationPrivate Game Lodge – South Africa
Job PurposeTo deliver exceptional and safe wildlife experiences to guests through guided game drives and walking safaris, while promoting conservation, environmental awareness, and the lodge’s service standards.
Key Responsibilities- Guest Experience
- Conduct informative and engaging game drives and bush walks.
- Interpret animal behaviour, ecology, birdlife, and local flora.
- Ensure guest safety at all times during activities.
- Build rapport with guests and provide personalized experiences.
- Assist with guest hosting when required (meals, transfers, special requests).
- Conservation & Environmental Stewardship
- Promote responsible tourism and conservation ethics.
- Monitor wildlife sightings and report unusual animal behaviour.
- Assist with anti-poaching awareness and lodge conservation initiatives.
- Vehicle & Equipment Management
- Maintain safari vehicles in clean and roadworthy condition.
- Conduct daily vehicle checks (fuel, tyres, radios, safety equipment).
- Ensure rifles (if applicable) are safely stored and compliant with regulations.
- Health & Safety
- Adhere to lodge safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Maintain valid First Aid certification.
- Ensure compliance with local and national conservation laws.
- Administrative Duties
- Complete guest registers and sighting reports.
- Assist with stock control of guiding equipment.
- Participate in training and skills development sessions.
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- Registered with Field Guides Association of Southern Africa (FGASA).
- Valid CATHSSETA accreditation
. - Valid South African Driver’s Licence with PDP.
- First Aid Level 1 (minimum).
- Rifle competency (advantageous, depending on lodge policy).
- Previous guiding experience in a Big 5 reserve (advantageous).
- Excellent knowledge of wildlife, bird species, and ecosystems.
- Strong communication and storytelling ability.
- Guest-focused with high service standards.
- Physically fit and able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Professional, well-presented, and team-oriented.
- Ability to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
- Passion for wildlife and conservation.
- Calm under pressure.
- High level of integrity and responsibility.
- Positive and energetic attitude.
