Gardener | La Residence

Located in the heart of the Franschhoek Winelands, La Residence is set amongst productive vineyards, orchards and beautifully curated gardens. Our gardens are central to the guest experience — providing fresh produce, seasonal flowers and a sense of place that defines the estate.

We are seeking a passionate and detail-oriented Gardener to join our team. This role is essential in ensuring that our gardens remain immaculate, productive and reflective of our purpose: to give our guests a complete experience and a perfect stay.

• Maintain and care for all landscaped areas, including lawns, flower beds, shrubs, vegetable gardens, orchards and pathways
• Plant, prune, fertilise and manage seasonal flowers, herbs and vegetables in line with the estate’s planting calendar
• Assist in maintaining vineyards, fruit trees and olive trees as required
• Ensure the greenhouse, irrigation systems and garden equipment are properly maintained and functioning effectively
• Monitor plant health, identify pests or diseases and implement appropriate treatments
• Support the supply of fresh produce, herbs and flowers to the Kitchen and Housekeeping teams
• Maintain high presentation standards at all times, ensuring all guest‑facing areas are neat, tidy and welcoming
• Work closely with the Farm Manager and wider estate team to support seasonal projects and improvements
• Follow your allocated roster and clock in and out daily
• Uphold a positive team environment and communicate any concerns with the Farm Manager or HR on property
• Always respect the guest environment - be welcoming, genuine, warm and discreet, maintaining strict confidentiality regarding guest information

• Matric certificate
• 3+ years experience working on a high‑end estate, preferably for a luxury hotel
• Strong knowledge of local plants, seasonal planting, soil care and irrigation systems
• Practical experience with pruning, planting and general garden maintenance
• Proven track record of attendance and punctuality
• Excellent verbal communication in English as well as reading and writing

It is important that the candidate is able to work as part of a team and is a good cultural fit for The Royal Portfolio.
South African citizenship is advantageous. A valid work permit is essential if you are not in possession of a South African .
