About the Role

Our client is seeking an innovative and experienced Pharmaceutical Formulation Scientist to join their research and development team in Benoni . This role is central to the development of new drug delivery systems and dosage forms, translating scientific discoveries into tangible pharmaceutical products. You will be involved in all stages of formulation development, from pre-formulation studies to process scale-up, ensuring drug product quality, stability, and bioavailability.

This hybrid position allows for hands-on laboratory work and collaborative remote sessions. You will contribute significantly to the company's pipeline, working with a dedicated R&D group focused on creating next-generation medicines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and optimize novel drug formulations and dosage forms (e.g., tablets, capsules, injectables, topical).
  • Conduct pre-formulation studies to characterize drug substances and excipients.
  • Perform stability studies according to ICH guidelines and analyze results to determine shelf-life and storage conditions.
  • Develop and validate analytical methods for assessing drug product quality attributes.
  • Collaborate with analytical development, manufacturing, and regulatory affairs teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Investigate and resolve formulation-related issues encountered during development and manufacturing.
Requirements
  • Ph.D. or Master's degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmaceutics, Chemistry, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in pharmaceutical formulation development.
  • Strong knowledge of various drug delivery systems, dosage forms, and manufacturing processes.
  • Hands-on experience with formulation development techniques and analytical characterization methods.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements (ICH, FDA, SAHPRA) for drug product development.
  • Excellent scientific writing, presentation, and problem-solving skills.
