QC - CMM Operator (Quality Control Coordinate Measuring Machine Operator) inspects manufactured parts and components to make sure they match exact technical and engineering standards using 3D measurement hardware and software.
Core Responsibilities- Operate CMM Equipment: Set up, calibrate, and run Coordinate Measuring Machines to measure complex precision components.
- Read Technical Drawings: Interpret engineering blueprints, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), and product specifications.
- Software Proficiency: Program and operate standard metrology software such as PC-DMIS, etc.
- Quality Reporting: Document inspection results, identify non-conforming or out-of-tolerance parts, and communicate defects to production teams.
- Manual Inspection: Use complementary physical measurement tools like micrometers, height gauges, and calipers.
- Education: Technical NQF Level 4 engineering qualification or diploma in dimensional metrology/mechanical engineering.
- Experience: Prior hands‑on experience running CMMs or portable measuring arms (like Romer arms) in a manufacturing, automotive, or aerospace environment.
- Skills: Strong attention to detail, analytical mindset, and ability to read complex technical documentation.
