The Tourism Research in Economics, Environs and Society (TREES) research entity at North-West University (NWU), South Africa, invites applications for a three-year Postdoctoral Fellowship in Tourism Economics, commencing on 1 November 2026 or a mutually agreed date. The fellowship offers a chance to join one of South Africa's leading tourism research teams and to contribute to research that advances tourism knowledge, economic development, environmental sustainability, and societal well-being.
Researchfocus
Research will focus on one or more of the following thematic areas.
The fellow will work in one or more of these areas within the TREES research programme.
- 1 Valuation of tourism resources
- 2 Tourism demand modelling and forecasting
- 3 Modelling tourist behaviour
- 4 Tourism impact modelling
Applications are encouraged from early-career researchers with expertise in econometrics, economic modelling, and quantitative tourism research methods.
Eligibility and termsNWU welcomes applications from outstanding early-career researchers who hold a PhD in Tourism Management or Economics obtained within the last four years, particularly those with strengths in econometrics, economic modelling, and quantitative tourism research methods.
At a glance Fellowship details- Stipend R488,280 per annum, tax-free
- Term Three years, extendable on exceptional performance
