Research Chemist - Synthetic Organic

About the Role

Our client is seeking a talented and motivated Research Chemist specializing in Synthetic Organic Chemistry . This role is based at our state-of-the-art research facility in Klerksdorp , where you will be an integral part of our drug discovery and development team. You will be responsible for the design, synthesis, and purification of novel organic compounds with potential therapeutic applications. We are looking for a candidate with a strong hands-on laboratory background and a keen interest in advancing chemical synthesis for pharmaceutical innovation.

• Design and execute multi-step synthetic routes for novel organic molecules.
• Perform various organic reactions, including cross-couplings, chiral synthesis, and heterocycle formation.
• Purify synthesized compounds using chromatography (column, HPLC) and crystallization techniques.
• Characterize synthesized compounds using analytical methods such as NMR, MS, and IR spectroscopy.
• Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory notebooks documenting all experimental procedures and results.
• Collaborate with other chemists and researchers to advance drug discovery projects.

• Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or a closely related field.
• Proven track record in synthetic organic chemistry, demonstrated by publications and/or patents.
• Hands-on experience with a wide range of organic reactions and purification techniques.
• Proficiency in spectroscopic techniques (NMR, MS) for compound characterization.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex synthetic challenges.
