Crop Specialist

Our client is seeking an expert Crop Specialist to drive innovation and optimize crop production at their facility in Welkom, Free State . This role is critical for advising on and implementing best practices in agronomy, soil science, and plant health to maximize yields and ensure the highest quality produce. You will work closely with farm managers and agronomists to monitor crop performance, identify challenges, and develop effective solutions.

The ideal candidate will have a deep scientific understanding of agriculture and a passion for sustainable and productive farming in the Free State province.

• Conduct regular field assessments to monitor crop health, growth stages, and potential issues.
• Develop and recommend tailored fertilization and irrigation strategies based on soil analysis and crop needs.
• Advise on and implement effective pest and disease management programs, emphasizing integrated and sustainable approaches.
• Conduct research on new crop varieties and cultivation techniques to improve efficiency and yield.
• Analyze soil samples and provide recommendations for soil improvement and nutrient management.
• Stay updated on the latest agricultural research, technologies, and regulatory changes affecting crop production.

• Master's degree or PhD in Agronomy, Plant Science, Soil Science, or a closely related agricultural field.
• Extensive experience in crop management and scientific research within an agricultural setting.
• In-depth knowledge of crop physiology, genetics, and pathology.
• Proven ability to interpret complex data and translate scientific findings into practical farm applications.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and reporting skills.
• Experience with precision agriculture technologies is a plus.
