About the Role
Our client is seeking a dedicated and proactive Mine Safety Officer to join their operational team in the Nelspruit area. This role is paramount to ensuring a safe working environment across all mining activities, focusing on the implementation and enforcement of stringent health and safety protocols. You will be responsible for conducting regular inspections, identifying potential hazards, providing safety training, and investigating incidents to prevent future occurrences.
This position offers a significant opportunity to contribute to a culture of safety excellence within a major mining operation, playing a vital role in the well-being of the workforce in the Mpumalanga province.
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and company policies.
- Identify, assess, and report on workplace hazards and implement control measures.
- Develop and deliver safety training programs to all site personnel, including induction and toolbox talks.
- Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses, preparing detailed reports and recommending corrective actions.
- Promote a positive safety culture throughout the mine site.
- Maintain safety records, documentation, and ensure compliance with reporting requirements.
- National Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field.
- SAMTRAC or equivalent advanced safety qualification.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a mine safety role, preferably in mining operations.
- In-depth knowledge of South African mining safety legislation (e.g., MHSA, OHS Act).
- Experience with risk assessment methodologies and incident investigation techniques.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and training skills.
