Safety Officer - Mining Operations

About the Role

Our client is seeking a proactive and vigilant Safety Officer to oversee safety protocols at their mining facility near Nelspruit. This essential role focuses on preventing accidents and ensuring a safe working environment for all personnel. You will be responsible for implementing safety programs, conducting site inspections, providing training, and investigating incidents. The ideal candidate is deeply committed to occupational health and safety, possesses excellent observational skills, and can effectively communicate and enforce safety standards within a demanding operational setting.

• Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive occupational health and safety programs.
• Conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards.
• Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses, preparing detailed reports and recommending corrective actions.
• Deliver safety training sessions to employees and contractors on various aspects of mine safety.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant safety legislation, regulations, and company policies.
• Promote a strong safety culture throughout the organization.

• National Diploma in Safety Management, Occupational Health, or a related field.
• Registered as a Professional Practitioner in Safety Management (Pr. SHEM) is advantageous.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience as a Safety Officer in a mining or heavy industrial environment.
• Thorough knowledge of mining safety regulations and best practices.
• Excellent communication, training, and interpersonal skills.
• First Aid and firefighting certification is a plus.
