Senior Backend Engineer; Node.js

Our client, a rapidly expanding fintech startup in Vereeniging, Gauteng , is looking for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Backend Engineer with a specialization in Node.js. This role is crucial in designing, developing, and maintaining the robust and scalable backend systems that power their innovative financial platforms. You will be responsible for building efficient APIs, managing databases, and ensuring the performance and security of their applications.

• Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable Node.js code.
• Develop and manage RESTful APIs for consumption by frontend applications and third-party services.
• Integrate with various data sources and databases, ensuring data integrity and performance.
• Implement security and data protection measures within the backend infrastructure.
• Collaborate with frontend developers to integrate user-facing elements with server-side logic.
• Write unit, integration, and end-to-end tests to ensure code quality and reliability.
• Optimize applications for maximum speed, scalability, and robustness.
• Participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback to peers.
• Troubleshoot and resolve backend issues and bugs.
• Contribute to architectural discussions and technical decision-making.
• Stay up-to-date with emerging backend technologies and best practices.

• Proven experience as a Backend Engineer or similar role, with a strong focus on Node.js.
• Extensive experience designing and developing RESTful APIs.
• Proficiency in JavaScript/Type Script and the Node.js ecosystem.
• Solid experience with database technologies such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or MongoDB.
• Understanding of microservices architecture and design patterns.
• Experience with message queues (e.g., RabbitMQ, Kafka) is a plus.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and deployment strategies.
• Experience with testing frameworks (e.g., Mocha, Jest) and CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong understanding of version control systems, particularly Git.
• Excellent problem-solving, debugging, and analytical skills.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
