Lymphoedema Specialist Practitioner

An exciting opportunity has arisen to expand our lymphoedema service to meet increasing local demand and to enhance the new model of community working within North West London. This role offers the chance for your voice to be heard in the development of our new service model.

The role aims:

  • To contribute to a comprehensive, effective and cost‑efficient lymphoedema service
  • To provide outpatient clinical assessment and care to patients with lymphoedema and to act as a resource to patients, their carers and staff
  • To work collaboratively with the Lead Lymphoedema practitioner and Head of Nursing in the strategic planning and development of the lymphoedema service
Main duties of the job
  • Ensure that patients have equitable access to the service and that the service meets the needs of patients within the catchment area.
  • Provide treatment for patients both within the Lymphoedema clinic and on occasion the in‑patient unit.
  • Provide specialist Lymphoedema management that is sensitive to the cultural needs of patients and their families/carers, acknowledging diversity.
  • Assist in developing a Lymphoedema team that strives to be at the forefront of Lymphoedema management developments.

Person Specification Education and Qualifications
  • Professional degree level qualification, such as RN, HCPC
  • Qualification in Complex Decongestive Therapy to include Manual Lymphatic Drainage
  • Previous experience in treating advanced and complex Lymphoedema.
  • Evidence of attending an Advanced Communication course or willingness to undertake.
  • Evidence of having attained level 2 Psychological Skills training or willingness to undertake.
  • Portfolio of career long learning.
  • Evidence of continuing updated knowledge in the management of Lymphoedema e.g., attendance of the British Lymphology Society Annual Conference.
Knowledge and Experience
  • Previous experience within a Lymphoedema service and five year post registration experience.
  • Evidence of attending relevant post registration development.
  • Ability to participate in stock and supply management of the Lymphoedema service within budgetary constraints.
  • Knowledge of the current nursing and Lymphoedema care agendas.
  • Knowledge of Clinical Governance and its relevance in lymphoedema care.
  • Ability to teach other health care professionals.

  • Computer literacy including Word and use of electronic patient records.
