Overview

The University of Southampton is a leading research-intensive university, ranked among the top 20 in the UK and with a research budget of over £1 billion. The University seeks an Accountancy Assistant to support its research and non‑research funding portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

Provide finance administration for externally funded research projects. This includes:

  • Coordinating budgetary requirements and preparing costing reports, statements and due‑diligence checks.
  • Supporting audit queries and financial advice on project costings.
  • Communicating with internal and external stakeholders and building relationships across academic disciplines.
  • Working with academics to maximise cost recovery and ensure compliance with complex legal and financial guidelines.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Substantial, relevant experience in finance administration.
  • Strong Excel skills and ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
  • Self‑motivated, well‑organised with excellent analytical and numeracy skills.
  • Proficient in interpreting information, communicating clearly with stakeholders, and problem‑solving with initiative.
  • Good communication, IT, and customer‑service skills.
  • Currently pursuing or ready to begin an accountancy qualification is desirable.
Working Conditions and Benefits
