Job DescriptionWe invite you to join the world of luxury hospitality at Fairmont Southampton as our new General Accountant. The General Accountant reports to the Director of Finance and plays a key role in supporting the financial integrity and operational efficiency of Fairmont Southampton. This position is responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting activities, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and maintaining strong internal controls.
The General Accountant contributes to informed business decision-making by providing financial insights and analysis, while working collaboratively with operational departments to support the hotel’s financial performance. This role also supports group billing processes and ensures timely, accurate financial transactions across all areas of the business.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Operations & Transaction Management
- Record, review, and process daily financial transactions, including Accounts Payable, Income Audit, and Cash Management.
- Ensure all entries are accurate, complete, and recorded in accordance with company policies and accounting standards.
- Maintain general ledger integrity, including reconciliations and journal entries.
- Support month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring deadlines are met.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow reports.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, audit requirements, and financial policies.
- Assist in external and internal audits by preparing necessary documentation and responding to queries.
- Maintain accurate and organized financial records.
Financial Analysis & Business Support
- Analyze financial data and prepare reports to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Provide meaningful financial insights to support operational and strategic decision-making.
- Work closely with department heads to review performance.
- Contribute to improving processes and enhancing financial reporting accuracy.

Experience
- 3–5 years of accounting experience, preferably within the hospitality industry or a similar high-volume environment.
- Experience with financial reporting, reconciliations, and transaction processing.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
- Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving abilities, with keen attention to detail.
- Good understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting standards.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
