Position: Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon - Bank/Flexi Contract

Overview

We’re seeking an experienced Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon (Bank) to support and strengthen the orthopaedic service at Practice Plus Group Hospital, Southampton. Working with a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, you’ll help maintain excellent patient access and outcomes by providing flexible cover during periods of increased activity or consultant absence. This bank role offers high-quality elective work, no routine out-of-hours commitment, and the opportunity to contribute to a service recognised for clinical excellence and efficiency.

Responsibilities
  • Delivering outpatient clinics and elective surgical sessions in line with agreed scope of practice
  • Providing high-quality peri-operative care, from assessment and decision-making through to post-operative follow-up
  • Performing surgery to the highest clinical standards in your area(s) of specialist expertise
  • Working collaboratively with clinical and managerial colleagues to deliver efficient, patient-centred care
  • Maintaining accurate clinical records and contributing to audit, governance and incident reviews when required
  • Supporting service resilience by providing cover for annual leave, sickness and activity peaks.
Qualifications
  • GMC Specialist Registration (or immediate eligibility) with FRCS(Orth) or equivalent
  • Extensive experience and excellent outcomes in one or more orthopaedic subspecialties, such as primary hip or knee replacement, arthroscopy, or upper/lower limb surgery
  • A proven track record of efficient, high-quality operative practice
  • Strong commitment to teamwork, clinical pathways and continuous service improvement
  • Excellent communication skills and a flexible, professional approach
  • Commitment to appraisal, CPD, revalidation and the highest standards of clinical governance
