Job Summary
University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us. The post is a 12‑month fixed term contract, initially starting in March 2026, with the possibility of renewal.
The successful candidate will join the busy tertiary level Neonatal Intensive Care team at Princess Anne Hospital, Southampton.
Key Responsibilities- Participate in the ST1‑3 equivalent SHO rota and work alongside senior trainees, clinical fellows, research fellows, MTIs and ANNPs.
- Rotate through Neonatal Intensive Care, High Dependency, Special Care, Transitional Care and the Postnatal Ward.
- Attend high‑risk deliveries and hold the delivery suite bleep.
- Perform venepuncture, cannulation, lumbar puncture and develop central line and intubation skills.
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
- GMC registration with a licence to practise.
- Working towards completion of MRCPCH or equivalent.
- At least 2 years’ experience post‑graduation and a minimum of 6 months working in the NHS.
- Appropriate knowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems.
- MSC/BSc or other intercalated degree.
- Prior experience working in a tertiary level 3 neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
- Experience managing extremely pre‑term infants >22 weeks gestation.
- NLS & APLS provider or equivalent.
- Interest or experience in research.
- Competent IT skills and familiarity with NHS systems.
- Evidence of effective multi‑professional teamwork.
- Understanding of equality and diversity.
- Excellent verbal and written communication in English.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
- Calm, compassionate and able to respond efficiently to changing circumstances.
- NLS instructor.
- Evidence of participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
- Audit or quality improvement project experience in neonatal medicine.
- Proven involvement in acute neonatal emergencies.
- Competence in practical neonatal procedures (venepuncture, cannulation, lumbar puncture).

Grade:
Doctor – Other. Salary: £52,656 a year. Fixed‑term contract for 12 months, full‑time.
