University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us. Please see below for a detailed job description of the role.
Main duties of the jobApplications are invited for the Wessex interventional cardiology fellowship. This encompasses at least 4 appointments across the region in 3 trusts – Portsmouth (QAH), Southampton (UHS) and Bournemouth (UHD).
In general, all the posts will carry with them training in interventional cardiology. All three centres have busy 24/7 primary PCI services across the Wessex region – covering the area from East Sussex to West Dorset and parts of Wiltshire.
In all trusts, the successful candidate will receive advanced training in all aspects of percutaneous coronary intervention in both acute and stable patients. All have established CTO programmes and perform complex “CHIP” angioplasty.
For a candidate with suitable experience, UHS offers a post with training in structural intervention within our TAVI and mitral programmes.
About usAs one of the largest acute teaching Trusts in England, we offer learning and development opportunities to help you achieve the career you aspire to. UHS is rated “Good” by the CQC and in the latest national NHS Staff Survey, we were in the top 10 acute trusts for staff engagement and for staff recommending the hospital as a place to work or receive care.
We support flexible working and will consider requests taking into account the needs of the service. UHS employees are able to access a range of NHS discounts, are entitled to a minimum of 35 days paid holiday (pro rata), and we offer a generous pension scheme.
Southampton is an attractive place to live and work situated on the south coast, with an international airport and direct trains to London. The New Forest National Park and beaches of the Jurassic coast are also right on our doorstep. The city offers living costs 20% lower than London and 14 schools rated outstanding by Ofsted.
Job responsibilitiesThere are three positions available across the Wessex region for PCI, one at UHS, one at UHD, and one successful applicants can both expect to have training in both basic and complex PCI.
In addition, a dedicated post at UHS will provide (to a suitable candidate) experience in the planning and insertion of trans‑catheter aortic valve replacements (TAVI). They will be expected to support the TAVI team and play an active part in the TAVI MDT process. This includes assessment of referrals and ongoing care of ward patients (including acute general cardiology referrals to the service).
Successful applicants can expect high‑quality training in all aspects of interventional cardiology. All labs are well provisioned and across the Wessex region, 90% of cases are undertaken via the radial approach. The successful applicants can expect exposure and training in IVUS, OCT, and advanced intracoronary physiology using various technologies.
Recannalisation of chronic total occlusions is a major interest within each department. Each lab is fully equipped with rotational atherectomy and intravascular lithotripsy. There are also opportunities to train in other calcium modification techniques including orbital and laser atherectomy, and coronary sinus reducer implantation.
In all trusts, the successful candidate will receive advanced training in percutaneous coronary intervention in both acute and stable patients. All have established CTO programmes and perform complex CHIP angioplasty.
