DetailedJob Description and Main Responsibilities
Applications are invited for the Wessex interventional cardiology fellowship. The fellowship spans at least 4 appointments across the region in three trusts – Portsmouth (QAH), Southampton (UHS), and Bournemouth (UHD). All posts carry training in interventional cardiology with busy 24/7 primary PCI services covering East Sussex to West Dorset and parts of Wiltshire. Candidates will receive advanced training in all aspects of percutaneous coronary intervention in both acute and stable patients, and exposure to CT‑O programmes and complex “CHIP” angioplasty.
A dedicated post at UHS also offers training in structural intervention within our TAVI and mitral programmes, with responsibilities including support of the TAVI MDT, assessment of referrals, and ongoing care of ward patients.
All labs are well equipped – 90% radial approach, IVUS, OCT, advanced intracoronary physiology, rotational atherectomy, intravascular lithotripsy, orbital and laser atherectomy, and coronary sinus reducer implantation. You will run a weekly outpatient clinic for complex PCI patients, oversee the weekly angio review session, and prepare the cardiac surgical MDT.
Appointment and SalaryAppointment will be made under local contractual terms and conditions of service. Eligible candidates will have an educational framework equivalent to training grade doctors and a named educational supervisor. The basic salary is paid at a nodal pay point linked to the grade, with additional remuneration for extra hours. Salary is assessed based on experience and skills. Eligibility criteria: minimum of 6 years of specialty training, holding a relevant higher specialty exam (FRCP, FRCA, FRCS), and evidence of progression in line with the deanery curriculum.
