Job Overview
University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us. The role is a full-time Senior Clinical Fellow in Nutrition and Intestinal Failure at University Hospital of Southampton (UHS). It is an exciting training post within a thriving multidisciplinary nutrition team in a large Integrated Intestinal Failure centre, providing Type 2 and 3 IF care to patients from Southern England.
We are recruiting for two posts: a 6‑month fixed term starting ASAP and a 12‑month fixed term starting in September. The position can be tailored to an interested doctor prior to gastroenterology training, as an out‑of‑programme‑experience during training, or post‑CCT.
Responsibilities- Key member of the multidisciplinary team, involved in inpatient and outpatient care of patients requiring intravenous nutrition and hydration support including those with type 2 and 3 Intestinal Failure.
- Provide complex tertiary gastroenterology care, supported by specialist nurses, dietitians, pharmacists, consultants and surgeons.
- Engage in other subspecialties of gastroenterology as per interest (e.g., neuro‑gastroenterology, endoscopy).
- Appointment under local contractual terms and conditions of service for Trust‑appointed (non‑training fellow doctors and dentists).
- Salary assessed based on experience and skills; basic salary plus additional remuneration as appropriate.
- Eligible for Nodal Point 5 criteria: minimum 6 years of specialty training, relevant higher specialty exam (FRCP, FRCA, FRCS) and evidence of progression per curriculum.
Essential criteria
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
- GMC registration with licence to practise.
- Completion of core medical training.
- MRCP (UK) or equivalent.
- Gastroenterology/Medical registrar level experience.
- At least four years medical experience since qualification.
- Experience in gastroenterology and general medicine with exposure to other specialties.
- ALS certificate.
- At least 6 months attached to a gastroenterology team.
Desirable criteria
- ST5 level or above in gastroenterology training.
- Experience in nutrition and intestinal failure and transplant.
- Evidence of interest in clinical nutrition and intestinal failure.
- Training courses.
- Professional meetings attended.
Essential criteria
- Experience working effectively in multi‑professional teams.

- Strong communication and liaison skills (verbal and written) in English.
- Good organisational skills and ability to prioritise effectively.
