We are excited to be supporting a thriving, values-driven secondary school in Southampton with the launch of a brand new Vision Impairment Resource Base. We are seeking a passionate and skilled Qualified Teacher of Vision Impairment (QTVI) to help shape this specialist provision from the ground up.

The new Vision Impairment Resource Base will sit at the heart of the academy’s inclusive offer, ensuring that students with vision impairment needs can access a full, ambitious curriculum and thrive both academically and personally.
About the Role:
As Specialist Teacher for Vision Impairment, you will play a pivotal role in establishing and leading exceptional provision within the new resource base.
Your responsibilities will include:
Delivering specialist teaching and targeted support within the VI resource base
Teaching Braille (where required)
Ensuring full curriculum access and entitlement for students with VI
Providing expert guidance and training to teachers and LSAs
Delivering pre-Key Stage English and Maths for identified SEND groups
Leading assessments, identifying needs and recommending specialist equipment
Working closely with families, external agencies and the local authority advisory service
Contributing to statutory processes including annual reviews and ADPR cycles
Supporting whole-school inclusive practice and staff development
This is a role where your expertise will directly shape the quality, identity and long-term success of a new specialist provision.

What We’re Looking For:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Mandatory Qualification for Vision Impairment (QTVI), or willingness to undertake this with full support
Experience supporting children and young people with vision impairment and/or additional needs
Confidence in advising and training colleagues
Strong communication and partnership-building skills
Reflective, compassionate and resilient practitioner
Commitment to inclusive education and high expectations for all learners
A contracted Braille qualification (desirable but not essential)
Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply for one)
