Bitterne Park School is seeking to appoint an outstanding and committed EAL Co-ordinator to lead and develop our provision for students who speak English as an Additional Language (EAL).
This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated teacher to make a significant impact on student outcomes by championing inclusive practice, supporting colleagues and ensuring that all EAL learners are able to access the curriculum and achieve their full potential.
Working closely with senior leaders, curriculum leaders, pastoral teams and the SEND department, you will play a key role in developing high-quality teaching strategies, monitoring progress and supporting the integration and achievement of our diverse student population.
Key Responsibilities 1. Teaching and Learning- Plan and deliver high-quality EAL support and intervention for students at varying levels of English proficiency.
- Teach small groups or individual students to develop speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.
- Adapt teaching materials and resources to support access to the secondary curriculum.
- Assess student progress in English language acquisition and maintain accurate records.
- Support students in developing the language skills required to achieve academic success across all subjects.
- Work with the Senior Leadership Team Link for EAL in the development and implementation of the school's EAL Strategy.
- Identify EAL students' needs through assessment, screening and induction processes.
- Monitor and track the progress of EAL learners across all year groups.
- Maintain an accurate and up-to-date register of EAL students, including English proficiency levels.
- Analyse attainment and progress data to identify trends and inform intervention planning.
- Provide guidance and practical strategies to teachers on supporting EAL learners within mainstream classrooms.
- Deliver staff training, workshops or briefings on effective and inclusive teaching practices.
- Work collaboratively with subject departments to develop differentiated learning materials and approaches.
- Promote whole-school awareness of the needs of EAL learners and strategies that improve outcomes.
- Support the successful integration of newly arrived students into school life.
- Promote inclusion and celebrate linguistic and cultural diversity throughout the school community.
- Work closely with pastoral teams to support students' wellbeing, attendance and engagement.
- Act as a key advocate for EAL learners, ensuring their needs are recognised and addressed.
- Build positive relationships with parents and carers, including those with limited English proficiency.
- Liaise with external agencies and support services where appropriate.
- Support communication between school and families, including arranging translation or interpretation services where necessary.
- Work collaboratively with staff, families and external professionals to ensure a joined-up approach to supporting students.

Position: 37 hours per week, term time only
Grade:
Unqualified Teacher Scale - point 6: £35259 (FTE) Actual salary £30,309 per annum.
