Tormead School (Guildford, Surrey – 40 minutes from London) – Part‑time (20‑30 hours per week) fixed term position (September 2026 to August 2027).
About the RoleWe are seeking a talented and enthusiastic Director in Residence to join our thriving Drama Department. You will work closely with the Head of Drama to support teaching, rehearsals, productions and the wider creative programme. This role offers an exceptional opportunity for a graduate or early‑career theatre professional to develop their own creative practice while shaping school productions from audition to performance.
Key Responsibilities- Direct or co‑direct school productions from audition to performance.
- Support practical lessons and examinations, helping students develop performance skills, technical understanding and confidence on and behind the scenes.
- Contribute to stage management, lighting, sound, costume and set planning and organise resources.
- Assist with day‑to‑day administration of the department.
- Graduate in Drama, Theatre, Acting or a closely related discipline, or relevant practical experience.
- Secure grounding in performance and a developing understanding of directing live work.
- Enthusiasm for working with children and young people.
- Organised, adaptable and energetic, bringing warmth, professionalism and commitment to all aspects of the role.
- Willingness to undergo child‑protection screening, DBS check and online searches.
- Flexible part‑time hours tailored to meet the School’s and the successful candidate’s needs.
