Job OverviewJob Title: Foundation Fellowship Programme Director (FF3)
Start Date: August
Contract Type: Fixed term
Duration: 36 months
Purpose: Internal secondment to provide structured training and supervised clinical development for foundation fellowship doctors.
This post is appointed on a fixed‑term basis to provide defined educational opportunities, supervised clinical practice, and experience aligned to the relevant specialty training curriculum. The postholder will also support service delivery.
Key Responsibilities- Lead delivery of the Foundation Fellowship Programme
- Monitor trainee progress, performance and well‑being
- Support Educational Supervisors and ensure high‑quality placements
- Lead recruitment, induction and appraisal processes
- Work closely with the Director of Medical Education and the wider education team
- Support doctors in difficulty and promote inclusive training opportunities
In this role the individual works alongside the Foundation Fellowship Programme Director for F1/F2, overseeing recruitment, training, supervision and appraisal for the fellowship programme. Strong leadership and communication skills are essential.
Person SpecificationQualifications, Training &
Experience:
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- GMC registration with a licence to practise
- Appropriate knowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgement
- Track record of educational supervision
- Experience of organising postgraduate and undergraduate education
- Understanding of NHS structure and processes
- Experience of working with students or doctors in an educational setting
- Experience of managing a multi‑professional team
Desirable Criteria:
- University higher degree
- Educational qualification
- Experience of educational leadership and education
- Evidence of submitting work for peer review
- Experience of supervising a locally employed doctor
- Understanding of routes into training for locally employed doctors
Aptitudes and
Skills:
- Evidence and ability to work effectively in multi‑professional teams
- Understanding of equality and diversity and how this affects patients, visitors and staff
- Evidence and ability to communicate and liaise effectively with patients and colleagues (verbal and written communication skills in English)
- Knowledge of the LED Charter
- Evidence of participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
