About

the Role

As Assistant Director
- Maths, you will play a pivotal role in the strategic leadership and operational delivery of secondary mathematics across the Trust. Working closely with the Director and Deputy Director, you will drive continuous improvement in pedagogy, curriculum design, and assessment frameworks. You will act as a key leadership figure, providing hands-on support, mentoring, and coaching to Subject Directors and teaching staff to foster an inclusive, high-performing learning environment.

Responsibilities
  • Strategic Leadership & Operations: Support the development and implementation of Trust-wide strategic plans for mathematics; monitor policy effectiveness and curriculum delivery to ensure alignment with Trust objectives and high educational standards.

  • Teaching, Learning & Support: Lead projects focused on improving classroom instruction, pedagogy, and assessment; ensure inclusive practices are embedded to support all students, including SEND and disadvantaged learners.

  • Staff Development &

    Collaboration:

    Mentor, coach, and support the professional growth of Subject Directors and teaching staff; assist with recruitment, performance management, lesson observations, and sharing best practices across schools.

  • Data Analysis & School Improvement: Utilise student performance data to track progress, identify underperforming areas, and lead targeted intervention plans to close attainment gaps across the Trust.

  • Accountability & Compliance: Support internal and external evaluations (including Ofsted inspections); ensure all departmental activities adhere to Trust policies, health and safety, and safeguarding standards.

Qualifications
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a strong academic background in Mathematics or a related discipline.

  • Proven record of successful educational leadership with demonstrable evidence of improving teaching, learning, and student outcomes in secondary mathematics.

  • Extensive experience in data analysis, curriculum planning, and executing targeted cross-school interventions.

  • Exceptional interpersonal, coaching, and communication skills, with the ability to build collaborative relationships across multiple schools.

  • Up-to-date knowledge of national curriculum developments, pedagogical research, and evidence-based strategies in mathematics education.
