Federation Additional Learning Needs Co-ordinator (ALNCo)

Federation Leadership Role | Leadership Pay Scale L3-L7 | Permanent

We are seeking an exceptional Additional Learning Needs Co-ordinator (ALNCo) to join our federation: a values-driven community where every child is known, valued and supported to flourish.

This is a unique opportunity to lead and shape our inclusive provision across our two schools, ensuring that children with additional learning needs receive the highest quality support, intervention and opportunities to succeed.

Working alongside the Executive Headteacher, Heads of School, staff, families and external agencies, you will play a pivotal role in creating a culture where inclusion is everyone's responsibility and every learner can thrive.

About Our Federation

We are proud to be a federation rooted in strong relationships, collaboration and continuous improvement. We believe that every child deserves to experience success, belonging and opportunity.

Our work is grounded in:

  • Inclusion and belonging - every child is welcomed, valued and supported
  • Wellbeing and care - enabling children to feel safe, confident and ready to learn
  • High expectations and aspiration - ensuring all learners achieve their potential
  • Partnership with families and agencies - working together to secure the very best outcomes
  • Continuous improvement - using evidence-informed practice to improve provision for all learners.
The Role

As a key member of our team, you will lead and coordinate our strategic approach to ALN across the federation.

You will provide leadership in four key areas:

  • Strategic leadership of ALN provision and inclusion
  • Identification, support and progress of learners with additional learning needs
  • Partnership working with families, external agencies and professionals
  • Development of staff expertise and inclusive classroom practice

This role is both strategic and highly operational on the ground: shaping vision, influencing practice and ensuring that every learner receives the support they need to achieve and thrive.

What You Will Bring

You will be passionate about inclusion and committed to improving outcomes for children with additional learning needs. You will:

  • Lead the implementation of the Additional Learning Needs and Education Tribunal (Wales) Act
  • Coordinate high-quality person‑centred planning and individual development plans (IDPs)
  • Support staff in delivering effective universal provision and targeted interventions
  • Monitor the progress, wellbeing and achievement of learners with additional learning needs
  • Build strong partnerships with families and carers
  • Work collaboratively with external agencies and professionals
  • Provide advice, guidance and professional learning to staff
  • Promote a culture where inclusion, equity and belonging are at the heart of school life

Above all, you will help ensure that every child is understood, supported and empowered to succeed.

  • Values‑driven, compassionate and child‑centred
  • A trauma‑informed practitioner
  • An excellent classroom practitioner with a strong understanding of effective inclusive practice
  • Knowledgeable about Additional Learning Needs legislation and provision in Wales
  • Skilled in working collaboratively with families, colleagues and external agencies
