Senior Engineer (Structural Condition Inspections) – Building Structures
Join WSP as a Senior Engineer in our Building Structures team, based in Southampton and Basingstoke. You will be a key contributor to landmark projects across the UK, using WSP’s state‑of‑the‑art software and engineering expertise to assess and remediate existing building structures.
Job DescriptionAs an experienced Civil or Structural engineer, you will carry out structural condition assessments of existing buildings, design remedial works, and interact closely with our structural designers and analysts. You will own your projects, take a proactive approach, and work flexibly to meet client and project delivery requirements.
Responsibilities- Conduct structural condition assessments of existing buildings, often using tailored or bespoke semi‑automated software.
- Design structural remedial works and specifications across a broad range of building types, sectors, and materials.
- Collaborate with structural designers and analysts across all construction materials.
- Take personal ownership of assigned projects, maximizing performance and job satisfaction.
- Work flexibly, including from home, and plan your own days in line with survey and project requirements.
- Utilize WSP’s modern, fully equipped office facilities in Southampton and Basingstoke.
- Contribute to a growing order book and help deliver high‑profile, complex structural projects.
- Sound knowledge of structural engineering across a range of building types.
- Ability to identify defect origins and design cost‑effective repair solutions.
- Experience producing clear, concise engineering deliverables with minimal supervision (reports, calculations, sketches, specifications).
- Experience in quality assurance and reviewing project deliverables.
- Experience using tablet‑based inspection and surveying software (training provided).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Personable, proactive team member able to work with stakeholders.
- Experience working outside an office, planning flexibly to meet deadlines.
- Awareness of low‑carbon design and assessment of embodied carbon.
- Achieved or approaching Chartered Engineer status (MIStruct
E / AIStruct
E / MICE) or equivalent experience and a relevant engineering degree.
