Mechanical Design Engineer

Product Change Mechanical Engineer | Southampton | Permanent

We are seeking a Product Change Mechanical Engineer to provide mechanical and opto-mechanical design support for a portfolio of advanced laser and high-tech products. This role focuses on engineering changes, production support, and design improvements
, working closely with operations, suppliers, and cross-functional teams.

• Manage and execute engineering changes including obsolescence, supplier updates, and quality-driven modifications
• Support production and operations as the primary contact for released products
• Maintain and control BOMs, drawings, and specifications in line with engineering changes
• Apply 3D CAD (Solid Works) to modify designs and create detailed drawings
• Support design improvements using FEA, thermal analysis, or fluid dynamics (beneficial)

• Experience in mechanical design for assembly, manufacture, and reliability
• Material selection and tolerance definition for sheet metal and machined parts
• Experience working with external suppliers to implement design changes
• Degree or Masters in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent apprenticeship
• 3D CAD experience, ideally Solid Works

• 6+ years supporting complex engineered products throughout the lifecycle
• Electro-mechanical design experience, including PCB, cabling, and thermal management
• Familiarity with fibre optics, lasers, or high-tech industrial products
• Experience with DDM/PLM systems for change control

• Confident, proactive, and adaptable in a dynamic environment
• Strong team player with excellent communication and organisational skills
• Comfortable working within multi-disciplinary teams
