We’re looking for Fire Engineers to join our UK team and help deliver a growing portfolio of high‑impact, meaningful projects. Our work spans iconic projects such as restoring Manchester’s Grade‑I listed Town Hall, transforming the British Museum, and leading fire safety on Work Stack, the UK’s first mass timber light industrial building and a RIBA London Award winner. At Arup, we go beyond compliance, conducting cutting‑edge fire safety research, developing in‑house digital tools, and collaborating with academia and industry to tackle emerging hazards and improve safety equity for the most vulnerable.

As part of a 400+ strong fire safety skills network across 20 offices, you will deliver fire safety engineering services for our clients, working collaboratively with fire safety colleagues and multidisciplinary teams.

You’ll be working towards Chartered Engineer status or have a real motivation to achieve this. We will support you with what you need to succeed here.

• Understand and implement the principles of fire science on real projects via the engineering process (goals, objectives, building appraisal and hazards, design fire scenarios, etc.).
• Understand the Total Fire Safety concept: from client brief, through design and construction; taking account of the socio‑technical context and pre‑empting fire safety issues common at different stages of a project.
• Investigate and apply appropriate legislation and design guidance for use on your projects.
• Develop and implement fire strategies in collaboration with the design team and relevant stakeholders.

• Qualification in a relevant subject (fire engineering, other engineering disciplines, or architecture).
• Experience in a fire engineering consultancy or similar environment.
• Knowledge of applicable UK legislation and guidance, and awareness of the new regulatory regime.
• Excellent report‑writing and communication skills – be collaborative, creative and engaging.
• Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently, meeting tight deadlines.
• Proactivity in resolving issues, creating solutions, and seeking assistance as needed.
