Job Description

This role sits in the Programme and Project Delivery (PPD) team and is a prominent position within integrated project teams, taking responsibility for managing projects as the client project manager or working alongside senior colleagues.

The project delivery process is managed from initial strategic planning, through feasibility, detailed design and then into implementation, construction and handover. The holder supports project team members and flexes involvement to suit team strength.

The holder will create a favourable working environment and build high‑performing teams among suppliers, client representatives, technical specialists and partners.

Strong commercial acumen in project, contract and risk management is required, and decisions will be informed by technical leads while following governance procedures, project assurance and legislation.

Developing resilient relationships with stakeholders such as statutory authorities, landowners and local communities is crucial for negotiating agreements, consents, approvals and securing external funding.

Responding to incidents is a central part of the role. The holder will have an incident role and be available to respond during incidents or to provide business continuity support; additional payment may be offered.

Essential

• Degree (or equivalent) in engineering, environmental or geography‑related discipline.
• Experience in a formal project and contract management environment, ideally within engineering, environmental, construction or flood and coastal risk management.
• Experience managing contracts, preferably using NEC

• Track record for delivering results on technically challenging projects through coordination of a technical team.
• Strong interpersonal and influencing skills essential for managing internal and external stakeholders.

Desirable

• Project management qualification (e.g., PRINCE2 or APM).
• Chartered or working toward chartered membership of a professional body such as ICE, CIWEM or APMP.
• Expertise in hydrology, river modelling, feasibility assessment, asset management, business case development, cost monitoring/forecasting, scope preparation, CDM, engineering design and construction.

The base location is flexible within the South East Hub, with occasional expectation to co‑locate in Hub or delivery partner offices.
