Southampton (Hybrid)
Fast‑growing clean‑tech maritime business developing wind‑assisted propulsion systems is seeking a hands‑on Principal Design Engineer to lead structural/mechanical design of major subsystems.
You’ll own 3D/parametric modelling, structural analysis, and class‑compliant design, taking concepts through to production‑ready hardware with real‑world feedback.
ABOUT YOU
* Degree in Mechanical / Structural / Marine / Naval Architecture
* 5–10 years designing marine/offshore structures
* Strong 3D CAD & parametric modelling (NX, Inventor, similar)
* Structural analysis: FEA + hand calcs
* Experience with DNV / Lloyd’s Register / NK
* Background in large steel structures / welded assemblies
* Ability to turn load cases → validated designs
* Comfortable in a fast‑paced, hardware‑focused environment
YOUR NEW ROLE
* Lead mechanical/structural design of key subsystems
* Develop wing geometry & structural philosophy
* Define load cases and ensure classification compliance
* Perform/oversee stress & fatigue analysis
* Engage directly with class societies
* Mentor junior engineers
