Senior Geo-Environmental Consultant

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior to early Principal Geo-environmental Consultant to join our Southampton-based Infrastructure & Environment team in the Southeast.

This role would suit an experienced geo-environmental professional with strong technical capability, sound commercial awareness and the confidence to take a lead role in the delivery of contaminated land and ground engineering projects.

Our team provides contaminated land and ground engineering services primarily to the infrastructure and buildings sectors. We work collaboratively with multidisciplinary project teams to deliver high-quality, commercially focused and value-driven solutions that support the planning, construction and redevelopment of sites across the Southeast.

As a Senior / Principal Geo-environmental Consultant, you will take a lead role in the delivery of contaminated land and ground engineering projects, from initial desk study and investigation through to assessment, remediation and verification.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading the technical delivery of geo-environmental and contaminated land projects and taking ownership of discrete projects or work packages.
• Planning, specifying and managing ground investigations, including coordinating subcontractors, laboratory testing and monitoring programmes.
• Providing appropriate oversight of ground investigation activities, with a focus on technical direction, interpretation and project delivery rather than routine site supervision.
• Preparing and reviewing technical reports, including Phase 1 Desk Studies, factual and interpretive Ground Investigation Reports, controlled waters and human health risk assessments, remediation strategies and verification reports.
• Developing and reviewing conceptual site models and assessing source-pathway-receptor linkages.
• Interpreting soil, gas and groundwater monitoring data and identifying key environmental and ground-related risks.
• Developing pragmatic and proportionate risk management and remediation strategies.
• Providing technical advice to clients, project managers, contractors, regulators and multidisciplinary project teams.
• Attending client and project meetings and confidently communicating technical issues, risks and recommendations.
• Coordinating inputs from junior colleagues, subcontractors and external specialists.
• Reviewing technical outputs and ensuring work is delivered to the required technical and quality standards.
• Managing project programmes, resources, risks and budgets to support successful and profitable project delivery.
• Preparing and contributing to fee proposals, scopes of work and commercial opportunities.
• Identifying opportunities to develop existing client relationships and contribute to the growth of the team and wider business.
• Mentoring and supporting junior colleagues, providing constructive feedback and helping to develop technical capability across the team.
• Contributing to workload planning and resource coordination.
• Supporting the development of team members through regular guidance, coaching and knowledge sharing.
• Where appropriate, undertaking line management responsibilities, including one-to-ones, wellbeing and workload conversations, objective setting and performance and development reviews.
• Promoting a strong health, safety, wellbeing and environmental culture across project delivery.
• Ensuring project risks are appropriately identified, planned for and managed throughout the project lifecycle.

You will play a key role in delivering technically robust and commercially focused solutions that help our clients understand and manage contaminated land and ground-related risks.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Substantial relevant experience within the geo-environmental industry, ideally gained within a consultancy environment.
• A proven track record of delivering contaminated land and/or ground engineering projects.
• Experience planning, specifying and managing ground investigations at an appropriate level, including coordination of subcontractors, laboratory testing and monitoring programmes.
