We're currently looking to recruit an experienced mechanical engineer ideally with experience of managing an extensive asset register to join our Southampton port as a Mechanical Asset Manager. You'll be working in an autonomous role bridging the gap between our project team and engineering team, you should have a solid understanding of asset lifecycle and will be responsible for driving Tot Ex investment plans (up to 5 years).
We have a wide range of Mechanical Assets across the Southampton port, including cranes, air bridges, pumping stations and industrial doors, and the ability to prioritise project and maintenance works is vital.

- Enhance the performance, efficiency, and effectiveness of assets to meet organisational strategy, in multiple asset types.
- Define clear lifecycle asset ownership from procurement to disposal including any refurbishment requirements.
- Monitor asset performance through internal audits and management reviews to obtain data, to gain increased asset availability, reliability and utilisation.
- Achieving cost savings through informed asset management decisions, thereby improving the cost-effectiveness of asset ownership.
- Accountable to produce Tot Ex (OpEx and Cap Ex) investment plans (5yr - 1yr), underpinned by robust asset criticality and condition knowledge.
- Regulatory Compliance: manage and audit compliance with legal, regulatory, and statutory requirements related to asset management.
- Building confidence among stakeholders through transparent, systematic management of assets in line with organisational objectives and long term asset strategies.
- Work with Group Technical Authority to develop and embed a Strategic Asset Management Plan (SAMP)
- Develop Individual Asset Management Plans (IAMP’s) for assets starting with the most business critical
- Educated to degree level within an associated engineering discipline.
- Chartered Engineer or working towards
- Detailed and working knowledge of external legislation and internal policy requirements.
- Proven record of accomplishment in strategic planning in this area of expertise.
- Knowledge and experience of ISO 55000 (2024) (Ideal)
- Experience of portfolio asset management (Ideal)
- The job holder needs excellent interpersonal communication and relational abilities. Understands the link between engagement and performance.
- Strong drive for continuous improvement - never satisfied with the status quo
- Full UK driving licence
