Job Description & How to Apply Below

Birth Glide is a medical device company with a mission to make childbirth safer for mothers and babies. Our simple, low-cost solution is designed to prevent difficult births and reduce the use of instrument deliveries or emergency C-sections, reducing potentially life-changing birth injuries. Birth Glide have won seven research grants and is conducting an NIHR-funded human study in 2026.

We are looking for a hands‑on Process Development Engineer to help take our technology from prototype manufacture into reliable, controlled production for clinical studies and future scale-up.

This is an exciting opportunity for an early career or graduate engineer who enjoys practical engineering, problem-solving, and seeing ideas become real products.

Why Join Us?

You will gain hands‑on experience across medical device manufacturing, process development and quality, working closely with our Product Development and QA/RA teams.

As part of our small, dynamic team, you will have genuine ownership and the opportunity to see your work directly contribute to bringing an innovative medical device closer to clinical use.

Responsibilities
  • Developing and improving manufacturing processes for medical device components and assemblies.
  • Manufacturing and assembling prototype and clinical study devices to approved procedures and quality standards.
  • Support DFM/DFA activities to improve manufacturability, assembly efficiency, repeatability and scalability.
  • Maintaining a clean, organised and controlled manufacturing environment, including cleanroom and critical equipment.
  • Planning and running practical experiments to optimise processes and investigate manufacturing issues.
  • Analysing manufacturing data to improve consistency, quality and efficiency.
  • Creating and maintaining SOPs, work instructions and manufacturing records.
  • Supporting process characterisation, verification and validation activities.
Qualifications and Skills

We are looking for a practical, curious engineer who enjoys getting stuck in. You will need:

  • A degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Biomedical, Materials, Chemical/Process or a related discipline.
  • Experience with CAD (Solid Works) and rapid prototyping (e.g. FDM/SLA printers)
  • Experience with design, build, modify and improve simple jigs, fixtures and manufacturing aids.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem‑solving skills.
  • The ability to follow controlled procedures accurately.
  • An interest in practical experimentation, data and continuous improvement.
  • Good communication skills and a proactive, hands‑on mindset.
  • A willingness to learn about medical device development and regulated manufacturing.

Experience in medical devices, manufacturing, laboratories, clean rooms or regulated industries is desirable but not essential. We welcome applications from strong recent graduates and candidates with 0–3 years of relevant experience.

What You’ll Gain
  • Hands‑on experience:
Work directly on manufacturing and process development.
  • End‑to‑end exposure:
Learn about medical device development, manufacturing, quality and regulatory requirements.
  • Career growth:
Potential path to Senior Process Development Engineer, Product Design and QA/RA
  • Purposeful work:
Help bring a revolutionary medical device to clinical use that could make a real difference to mothers and babies.
About Our Culture

At Birth Glide, we value curiosity, creativity, ownership and a willingness to learn. As a start‑up, you will work closely with a collaborative team, take responsibility for meaningful projects and see the direct impact of your work.

  • If you are a practical engineer who wants to solve real problems and see your engineering work become a real medical product, we would love to hear from you
