What You Will DoExxon Mobil's UK Summer Placement Scheme is designed to give university students the opportunity to apply their degree knowledge and fulfil their potential, gaining confidence and experience as an individual, and learning new skills in a real operational environment.
Summer Placement students work in pairs or small teams to address real-life plant challenges. You could find yourself designing, coordinating, and analysing a plant trial or scoping a small capital project.
There will be opportunities to think independently, take initiative and be innovative. You will receive training, supervision and coaching support, and have opportunities to interact with our highly skilled manufacturing team and experience world scale Chemical Engineering operations.
Where you will workFawley is the UK's largest integrated petrochemical complex, producing a range of energy products, lubricants and chemicals that are vital to our everyday lives. Opened by Prime Minister Clement Atlee in September 1951, the complex covers 3,250 acres and provides employment for 2,500 valued staff and contractors. In addition to being a manufacturing hub, Fawley is also home to Exxon Mobil UK's commercial headquarters with product sales, marketing and business development teams based on site.

We're looking for engineers who combine strong technical fundamentals with a practical, delivery-focused mindset. Successful candidates will be curious, resilient and action-oriented problem solvers who enjoy working in a manufacturing environment and taking ownership of real-world challenges. We value individuals who can adapt quickly, challenge constructively, simplify complex problems and drive outcomes through collaboration with operations and engineering teams.
Academic ability is important, but it is not the sole differentiator for success. We are looking for engineers who are motivated to take ownership, continuously improve the way work is done and deliver measurable results through others as well as through their own technical capability.
To be eligible for this role, you must:
- Be expecting to graduate with a minimum of a 2:1 Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
* in 2028 - Be seeking to gain work experience on an 8 week Summer Placement commencing in July 2027
- Be able to demonstrate strong personal effectiveness, leadership potential and the ability to influence outcomes through collaboration

Successful candidates will be made a conditional offer of employment.
