Aboutthe Role
We are looking for an experienced and values-driven Finance Manager to lead our in-house finance function and play a key role in supporting high-quality, sustainable services.
This is a senior operational finance role with responsibility for day-to-day financial management, robust controls, accurate reporting and compliance. You will work closely with the Payroll Manager, our Executive Management Team, operational managers and an outsourced Director of Finance, providing trusted financial insight that supports informed decision-making and service delivery.
You will also lead and develop our transactional finance team, ensuring purchase ledger and sales ledger activities are accurate, efficient and well controlled.
Key responsibilitiesAs Finance Manager, you will:
- Produce timely, accurate management accounts, forecasts and variance analysis
- Provide financial insight and modelling to support service delivery, workforce planning, tenders and growth
- Lead the annual budgeting and rolling forecasting process
- Maintain strong financial controls, governance and compliance, including HMRC, Companies House and sector-specific requirements
- Support the review, implementation and embedment of finance systems and processes, delivering digital transformation through effective change management and continuous improvement.
- Support audit processes and act as the main finance liaison with external auditors and the outsourced Director of Finance
- Oversee income, invoicing and reconciliation across Local Authority, NHS and private funding streams
- Manage cash flow forecasting, expenditure controls and value-for-money decisions
- Provide support to payroll processing, pensions and statutory payments when required
- Line manage and develop the Purchase Ledger Clerk and Sales Ledger Clerk
- Act as a Finance Business Partner to operational managers, translating financial data into practical, meaningful insight
We’re looking for someone who combines strong technical finance skills with a collaborative, people-centred approach.
You will have:
- A professional accounting qualification (ACCA, CIMA, ACA or equivalent), or be willing to work towards one
- Proven experience in a Finance Manager or Management Accountant role
- Strong financial reporting, analysis and control experience
- Experience preparing audit or statutory accounts
- Experience of implementing and embedding new financial systems
- Excellent attention to detail and high levels of accuracy
- Strong Excel skills and confidence working with financial systems
- The ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance colleagues
- The confidence to challenge, escalate risks and maintain high standards of governance
It would be great if you also have:
- Experience in health, social care or another regulated environment
- Experience working in the charity or not-for-profit sector
- Knowledge of Charity SORP and working with outsourced finance providers
