University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust offers a senior finance apprenticeship role within our Finance Team, supporting a £1bn+ high‑performing NHS Foundation Trust and its subsidiary companies.

Job Responsibilities

As a Senior Finance apprentice you will support the subsidiary finance team with day‑to‑day core financial operations, including:

  • Supporting month‑end activities, payments to suppliers and raising invoices.
  • Answering budget manager queries, reconciling control accounts and using Excel to analyse and present financial data.
  • Providing genuine variety and understanding how finance supports the wider organisation.

The role is designed to give practical experience while you undertake a Level 4 finance apprenticeship and study either AAT Level 4 or the CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting; you will receive fully supported study time and off‑the‑job training.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience
  • Capable of attaining Level 4 apprenticeship.
  • Level 3 or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience in a finance environment.
  • Good standard of secondary education with literacy and numeracy skills demonstrable to GCSE pass level or equivalent.
  • Ability to effectively cope with a variety of ongoing tasks/issues at the same time.
  • Clear and concise verbal & written communication at all levels.
  • Ability to work to deadlines.
  • Accurate and timely production of information.

    Follow procedures and guidelines.
  • Can work alone or as part of a team.
  • Courses/further study attended to demonstrate personal development.
  • NHS finance experience.
  • Knowledge of Oracle financial systems.
  • MS Access experience.
  • Experience of cash forecasting.

Apprenticeship Details

If you are already an NHS employee applying for an Apprentice – Annex 21 vacancy you may be entitled to pay protection, subject to the role being at the same AFC band or higher and paying less than your current salary.

These roles are funded by the Government Apprenticeship Scheme and do not attract visa sponsorship.

  • You may be eligible if you have been ordinarily resident in the UK for at least the previous 3 years.
  • You must also have permission from the UK government to live in the UK (not for educational purposes) or have obtained pre‑settled or settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme.
