This role is a key part of the senior finance team that provides overall leadership and supports the achievement of the finance team vision in a £1bn+ Acute Foundation Trust.

Job Description And Main Responsibilities
  • Be the expert on all financial aspects of innovative and complex strategic projects where there is no precedent.
  • Project manage the development and implementation of complex strategic projects.
  • Develop and implement effective governance and financial policies and procedures for new business models.
  • Write financial sections of business cases relating to complex strategic projects and present these to various forums for approval.
  • Provide financial support and deputise for the Head of Finance – Strategic Projects & Capital.
Person Specification Qualifications, Knowledge And Experience – Essential criteria
  • CCAB qualified accountant (CIMA, ACA, CIPFA, ACCA) with post‑qualification experience at a senior level.
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • Evidence of CPD.
  • Relevant senior‑level NHS finance experience.
  • Experience of financial project management, financial appraisal techniques and forecasting, including input into major change business cases.
  • Detailed and expert knowledge of NHS Trust / Foundation Trust financial processes, NHS structural relationships, the NHS financial regime and existing legislation and accounting standards.
  • Extensive experience of financial management and formulating financial strategy.
  • Knowledge of data collection for forecasting and planning.
  • Significant previous experience of a leadership role within finance and a proven track record of delivering through others.
  • Knowledge of designing advanced spreadsheets and undertaking complex financial modelling.
  • Knowledge of relevant accounting standards.
  • Business management skills.
  • Project management skills.
  • Negotiation skills.
Desirable criteria
  • Prince2 / MSP qualification.
  • Better Business Cases (Practitioner).
  • Experience in a commercially focussed finance role.
  • Private or commercial sector experience.
  • Experience using the Treasury Green Book 5‑Case Model.
