Lead the development, implementation, and management of health and safety programs to ensure a safe working environment for all employees. Work closely with leadership and cross-functional teams to integrate health and safety practices into everyday operations, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, while fostering a culture of proactive safety. Report directly to our Director – HSE UK and make a significant impact.

Location: Southampton Port

Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week (Mon-Fri)

About the Role

We have an exciting new opportunity at DP World within our Health & Safety team. We are recruiting a Health & Safety Manager to report to our Director – HSE UK. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the development, implementation, and management of health and safety programs and initiatives to ensure a safe working environment for all employees.

How You Will Contribute

Leadership and Mentorship

  • Lead and guide the Health & Safety team, including Business Partners, H&S Advisors, and apprentices.
  • Foster professional growth through coaching and support.
  • Ensure effective implementation and advocacy for health and safety standards.

Decision-Making and Risk Management

  • Make key decisions on health and safety risks and interventions.
  • Use data and risk assessments to inform decisions.
  • Balance safety priorities with operational needs.

Collaboration and Risk Mitigation

  • Work with cross-functional teams to identify health and safety risks.
  • Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies.
  • Align safety protocols with business goals and legal requirements.

Employee Engagement

  • Partner with HR to engage employees in health and safety programs.
  • Create a supportive and empowered work environment.
  • Encourage employee participation in health and safety initiatives.

Data-Driven Improvements

  • Analyse health and safety data and performance metrics.
  • Recommend improvements based on data insights.
  • Drive continuous health and safety enhancements.

Policy Development and Compliance

  • Develop and implement health and safety policies.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory standards.
  • Promote high standards of health and safety practices.

Strategic Projects and Leadership

  • Collaborate with leadership on strategic health and safety projects.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to address health and safety challenges.
  • Improve compliance and evolve the safety culture.

Training and Development

  • Guide the development of training plans to minimize risk.
  • Improve safety knowledge across the organization.

External Networking and Collaboration

  • Build relationships with external stakeholders and safety organizations.
  • Stay informed of health and safety developments.
  • Introduce new technologies to improve safety performance.

Support Investigations and Corrective Actions

  • Oversee investigations into health and safety incidents.
  • Ensure root causes are identified and corrective actions implemented.
  • Share lessons learned to prevent future incidents.

What you will bring

  • A degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Safety Management, or a related field, or equivalent professional qualification (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH).
  • 5+ years proven experience in health and safety management, with a solid understanding of health and safety regulations, risk management, and industry best practices.
  • Strong communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, leadership, and employee representatives.
  • Proactive approach to handling competing priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.
