Main duties of the job

Clinical Engineering is looking for a Team Manager, Specialist Clinical Technologist (Healthcare science practitioner) on a 12-month Secondment.

With a clear focus on quality and patient services you will be responsible for managing a team of clinical technologists, technically supporting a wide range of medical equipment across many clinical specialities that supports the delivery of world class healthcare here at University Hospital Southampton, within the local healthcare community and overseas. The role may include exciting opportunities for 2-5 days of overseas work per year.

Job Description And Main Responsibilities

You will line manage a team of highly skilled healthcare science professionals providing medical equipment technical services to a diverse range of clinical specialisms throughout the Trust and to other NHS and private healthcare providers. (approximately 10,000 assets with a book value of £30m)

You will be responsible for managing the commissioning, maintenance (corrective and planned), technical corrective measures for national technical safety recalls, decommissioning and disposal.

Be Responsible for healthcare science technical training for team including continuous professional development and apprenticeships (educational level 3 to
6)

Along with offering specialist technical advice to clinical and scientific staff.

Person Specification Qualifications, Knowledge And Experience Essential criteria
  • Relevant BSc in Clinical Engineering (via PTP), or equivalent specialist knowledge and experience
  • Masters in Clinical Engineering (via STP) or equivalent specialist training and experience
  • Specialist knowledge through formal medical equipment manufacturer training courses and in-depth experience
  • In depth experience of working at band 6 or higher (or equivalent) in a hospital medical engineering technical role
  • Practical experience of supervising staff or managing a team within a medical technical environment
  • Familiar with MS Office and the use of computers for accessing history and set-up information/databases held within medical equipment
  • Registered Clinical Scientist, or member of the voluntary register of Clinical Technologists or equivalent level of competence
  • Fit and able to carry medical equipment
  • Dexterous skills handling in precision electronic components and tool, able to use precision instruments, safety testers, diagnostic test equipment and microscopes
  • Able to climb step ladder to access telemetry equipment above clinical ceiling areas
  • Able to travel between hospitals within UHS the portfolio
  • Valid passport to occasionally undertake overseas training and work
Desirable criteria
  • Recognised management qualifications e.g., relating to risk management, governance, leadership, budget management and team working, workforce development, or people management
  • Staff management training courses
  • ECDL Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Experience of working within a Quality Management System
  • Driving licence
  • Experience of working overseas
