Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 4 Anaesthetic Administrator to support the Anaesthetic Department at University Hospital Southampton.

About The Team

You will be an intrinsic member of the Anaesthetic Administration team. Your other key working relationships will be with Consultant & Trainee Anaesthetists, Care Group Clinical Lead, Medical Students, Clinical Theatre Operational Managers, Clinicians from other Care Groups and Bed Managers.

Job Description And Main Responsibilities

What You’ll Do

  • You will compile and maintain rotas for the allocation of all medical staff to operating lists.
  • Re-deploy staff in response to unforeseen changes in the clinical complexity of procedures, last minutes changes to availability of staff and list requirements.
  • You will compile and maintain night and weekend rotas for the allocation of all medical trainee staff.
  • Communicate on a regular basis with the Clinical Theatre Operations Managers and Surgical Specialities to maintain up to date roster allocations.
  • You will be responsible for organising and prioritising your own workload.

  • You will need to have excellent administrative and organisational skills.
  • The confidence to work with patients and senior clinicians.
  • The ability to work independently.

Qualifications, Knowledge And Experience

Essential criteria

  • Health and physical abilities sufficient for the post (if necessary with reasonable adjustments with respect to the Equality Act/Disability Discrimination Act)
  • To be able to sit at a PC for fairly long periods of time
  • RSA2 word processing/typing or equivalent
  • As a minimum, to be educated to GCSE (or equivalent) standard with a pass in English
  • Knowledge of business and administration policies to NVQ3 standard
  • Experience as a secretary or administration assistant in a customer focused environment
  • To demonstrate a good understanding of the importance of confidentiality and data protection
  • Ability to work autonomously and be part of a team
  • Friendly and approachable manner
  • To be polite, sympathetic, patient and diplomatic
  • Able to work on initiative, reliable, with a flexible approach to working
  • Confident in dealing with people at all levels

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of the NHS
  • Previous experience of working in a busy hospital environment
  • RSA3
  • Knowledge of relevant Trust policies
  • Knowledge of health & safety requirements
  • Understanding of European Working Time Directive for Junior Doctors Hours
  • Enjoys people contact
