Research Nurse | University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust

Company:

Company:
University Hospital Southampton NHS FT

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.

We have an exciting opportunity for an NMC-registered nurse to join our Cancer Research Team at Southampton General Hospital as a Band 5 Research Nurse within our Gastrointestinal Cancer Research portfolio.

This is a unique opportunity to combine clinical nursing expertise with cutting-edge research, helping to shape the future of cancer care. As part of a dedicated and supportive research team, you will work closely with clinical and non-clinical colleagues to deliver high-quality clinical research studies and provide outstanding care to patients taking part in research.

Clinical research offers a rewarding, patient-centred career where every study contributes to advancing treatment options and improving outcomes for future patients. At UHS, we are committed to ensuring equitable access to research by embedding studies within routine clinical pathways, enabling eligible patients to access innovative therapies while enhancing their overall care experience.

The Cancer Research Team is a dynamic and collaborative group within the wider UHS Research & Development workforce. We work closely with clinicians, allied health professionals, sponsors, and external partners to deliver research safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards. We are committed to supporting professional development and can provide a rich learning environment for those looking to develop a career in clinical research.

As one of the largest acute teaching Trusts in England, we offer learning and development opportunities to help you achieve the career you aspire to. UHS is rated ‘Good’ by the CQC and in the latest national NHS Staff Survey, we were in the top 10 acute trusts for staff engagement and for staff recommending the hospital as a place to work or receive care.

We support flexible working and will consider requests taking into account the needs of the service. UHS employees are able to access a range of NHS discounts, are entitled to a minimum of 35 days paid holiday (pro rata), and we offer a generous pension scheme.

Southampton is an attractive place to live and work situated on the south coast, with an international airport and direct trains to London. The New Forest National Park and beaches of the Jurassic coast are also right on our doorstep. The city offers living costs 30% lower than London and 17 schools rated outstanding by Ofsted.

We believe that using technology wisely shows strong time management and commitment to innovation. However, personalising your recruitment application to highlight your unique skills and experiences is crucial. Relying too heavily on generic, AI-generated content instead of drawing from your own strengths and accomplishments may lead to your application being rejected if multiple candidates present identical or similar information.

As a Research Nurse, you will play an important role in delivering a diverse portfolio of cancer research studies from study set-up through to close-out. Working within a supportive and experienced multidisciplinary team, you will help ensure participants have access to high-quality clinical research opportunities.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Supporting the delivery of a range of commercial and non-commercial research studies.
  • Identifying, recruiting, consenting and following up patients and participants involved in clinical trials.
  • Administering research treatments, including Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT), in line with study protocols and Trust policies.
  • Undertaking clinical assessments and ensuring accurate collection and recording of high-quality research data.
  • Providing care and support to research participants across a variety of settings, including inpatient wards, outpatient clinics (such as Hamwic House) and other clinical areas.
  • Working from the Cancer Research Office on E Level while collaborating closely with clinical and research teams across the Trust.
  • Contributing to quality improvement…
