Job Summary
The Senior Payroll Assistant is a member of the Human Resource Team and will report to the Payroll Manager. The Senior Payroll Assistant will support the team with day-to-day processes of the monthly payroll ensuring an accurate and timely payroll, as well as helping improve processes working directly with the Payroll Manager and will provide additional support to the HR Colleagues within the team from a transactional process perspective.
They will be an active participant in delivering the People Agenda.

Responsibilities- Processing monthly salary changes, starters and leavers in CIPHR
- Send out contracts and offers to the required standard.
- Reconciling payroll and pension control accounts.
- Processing pension payments.
- Year-end close down, submissions and P60 distribution.
- P11d submission and P11d checking and distribution.
- Reconciliation of monthly salaries.
- Provide support, advice and assistance on matters of pay or colleague benefits as requested.
- Create statistical reports when required.
- Responsible for the production of the Group People Metrics.
- Liaise with external providers, such as HMRC and the pension provider.
- Accurate calculation and transfer of monthly payments to HMRC for tax and NI contributions, Salary BACS and other deductions and returns.
- Accurately calculate holiday pay compliance.
- Support the team with technical queries.
- Keep up to date with legislation and technical changes.
- Continuously review processes for accuracy and effectiveness.
- Implement and deliver new systems/processes.
- Supports the Payroll Manager in completing operational requirements by scheduling and assigning colleagues; following up on work results.
- Supports the Payroll Manager with payroll runs and BACS in their absence.
- Be an ambassador for GDPR protocols.
- Ability to work to tight deadlines.
- Able to plan and organise self and oversee others work.
- Able to assimilate information quickly and provide accurate detail.
- Strong work ethic and adaptable to change.
- Respect for confidential information.
- Good analytical problem solving and planning skills.
- Have a detailed knowledge of PAYE and HMRC regulations.
- Excellent team player as well as a good communicator.
- Experience and understanding of payroll related compliance.
- Strong analytical skills are required and the ability to be able to problem solve.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and any other industry standard payroll software.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Skills & Qualifications Essential:
- Relevant experience in a senior payroll role
- Excel proficient, including creating and formatting spreadsheets
- PC, Microsoft literate
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- Able to work as part of a team and share knowledge
- Used to working in a busy, pressurised environment to strict deadlines
- At least two years technical payroll experience
- Experience in producing P11d’s
- Working knowledge of CIPHR Payroll system
