Communications and Marketing Project Manager

NIHR Maternity Disparities Consortium, Theme 1

Applications are invited for an ambitious and creative Communications and Marketing Project Manager to join the University of Southampton and support a nationally leading research programme funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR).

The NIHR Maternity Disparities Consortium is a £50 million national initiative bringing together a diverse range of organisations with expertise in research, capacity development and community engagement to deliver a step change in maternity outcomes and develop future research leaders in this field. The Consortium's work focuses on tackling inequalities before, during and after pregnancy.

This exciting new role will support the Consortium's Preconception and Interpregnancy Health Theme, which is evaluating a new system-wide blueprint for preconception and interpregnancy care and support. Working closely with researchers, clinicians, community partners and communications professionals, you will lead the development and delivery of high-quality communications and marketing activities that demonstrate the value and impact of health research to a wide range of audiences.

You will be responsible for producing engaging content across digital and traditional channels, including websites, social media, publications and stakeholder communications. You will help communicate complex scientific information in clear and accessible ways, supporting engagement with researchers, healthcare professionals, partner organisations, funders and members of the public.

Working as part of Southampton's wider NIHR infrastructure, you will collaborate with colleagues across the university-hospital partnership, including the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre. The role also provides opportunities to work with communications professionals across NIHR regionally and nationally, helping to raise the profile of world-leading health research and its benefits for patients and communities.

We are looking for someone with substantial experience in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism or a related field, alongside excellent writing, digital content and stakeholder engagement skills. You should be able to translate complex information into compelling stories, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and work effectively with a broad range of internal and external partners. Experience of communications within healthcare, the NHS, higher education or research environments is essential.

This is a part-time (14 hours per week) fixed-term appointment until 31 May 2028, in the first instance. Subject to NIHR review and funding, there may be opportunities for elements of the research programme to continue beyond this date. The role is based within the Faculty of Medicine at Southampton General Hospital, with hybrid working available. The post is available immediately.

As a university we aim to create an environment where everyone can thrive and are proactive in fostering a culture of inclusion, respect and equality of opportunity. We believe that we can only truly meet our objectives if we are reflective of society, so we are passionate about creating a working environment in which you are free to bring your whole self to work.

With a generous holiday allowance as well as additional university closure days we are committed to supporting our staff and students and open to a flexible working approach.
