Contract: Permanent, 18.75 hours per week (full‑time equivalent 40 hours)
Salary: £23,993 – £27,715 per year (£11,996 – £13,857 for part‑time)

More about the roleAt our Southampton rehoming centre, we provide onsite accommodation for pets in our care 24/7, with facilities for dogs, cats and a specialised area for kittens. The Volunteer Coordinator recruits and supports volunteers, promotes volunteering benefits, and raises awareness of our centre and Blue Cross.
You will work closely with the Centre Manager and Assistant Managers to ensure volunteers are fully integrated into the team, welcome them, and collaborate. You will also build relationships with local communities and partners, promoting the benefits of volunteering to provide targeted support.
This role follows a 2‑week rota (week 1: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday; week 2: Tuesday, Thursday). Some flexibility around working days and occasional weekend work is possible.
About youYou will be an excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to promote the work of Blue Cross. You are a self‑motivated individual with a creative, forward‑thinking approach to volunteering. You work collaboratively at all levels, and enjoy participation in local volunteering events and national initiatives.
You are organised, flexible, analytical, target‑driven, and supportive. You can offer guidance, provide pragmatic solutions to volunteer situations, and have the resilience to thrive in an emotionally charged environment.
Knowledge, skills, and experience- Demonstrable experience supervising or managing volunteers or colleagues.
- Experience building relationships with a range of stakeholders.
- High standards of verbal and written communication.
- Experience working in a client‑focused environment delivering high customer satisfaction.
- Strong organisational, administrative and analytical skills, including computerised systems.
- Awareness of health and safety legislation.
- Current full driving licence.
- Understanding of Blue Cross values.
- Qualifications in managing volunteers or similar.
- Training or coaching skills.
- Presentation skills.
- Experience working with animals and animal welfare knowledge.
- Event organising experience.
- Understanding of safeguarding issues.
