Main duties of the job

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated Band 5 nurse to join our Respiratory Research Team  will be involved in delivering a wide portfolio of respiratory studies, including long‑term conditions such as asthma, COPD, interstitial lung disease, and acute respiratory infections.

Our research focuses on improving patient outcomes through innovative, patient‑centred approaches to care. The work we deliver contributes directly to advancing respiratory medicine and shaping future standards of treatment both locally and nationally.

We are committed to ensuring that all eligible patients have the opportunity to take part in research and to integrating research into routine clinical care. You will work closely with clinical teams to embed research within respiratory pathways, enhancing patient experience and access to novel therapies.

About the Team

Respiratory Research Team is a dynamic and supportive multidisciplinary team, working as part of the wider UHS Research & Development workforce. We collaborate closely with respiratory clinicians, allied health professionals, and external partners to deliver high‑quality research studies across inpatient, outpatient, and community settings.

Our team is actively involved in both commercial and non‑commercial trials and works closely with the NIHR Clinical Research Facility and other research delivery teams across the Trust.

Job responsibilities
  • Support the delivery of a range of respiratory research studies from set‑up through to close‑out
  • Recruit, consent, and follow up patients participating in clinical trials
  • Undertake clinical assessments and collect high‑quality research data
  • Work across a variety of settings including wards, clinics and community environments
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe and effective study delivery
  • Contribute to maintaining high standards of patient‑centred research care

This role offers excellent opportunities to develop skills in respiratory medicine and clinical research, with exposure to a broad range of study types.

What we are looking for

We are looking for a nurse who is enthusiastic, motivated and keen to develop within clinical research; adaptable and able to work across different clinical environments, providing cross‑team cover if required; a strong communicator with good organisational skills; interested in respiratory care and improving patient outcomes. Previous research experience is not essential, as full training will be provided through our dedicated research education programme.

You will receive a comprehensive induction and ongoing support within a welcoming and experienced team. We welcome applications from nurses with strong clinical backgrounds and a passion for learning.
